The Red Deer and District Archives was created in March 1964 by City Council to collect and preserve the documentary and photographic history of Central Alberta. Today, the Archives manages and makes available to the public a wealth of historical information on the development of Red Deer and the surrounding region. It is the official repository of City records of enduring historical value. It also holds records of various public bodies and institutions as well as records of numerous service clubs, churches, businesses, individuals and families.
The Archives maintains a collection of local histories for much of central Alberta. It also provides space in its reading room for the library of the Red Deer Branch of the Alberta Genealogical Society.
