The Social Planning department has four major responsibilities:

•     Support strong organizations

•     Build community

•     Social research

•     Connect with government, private sector, and NGOs

Support strong organizations

We work with local agencies to help them become even stronger and more sustainable to address social issues and improve quality of life. We do this through partnerships, liaisons with government, planning and funding.

Build community

We work with community members, local agencies, City departments and all levels of government to facilitate and empower citizens. Our goals are to strengthen the community, enhance participation and reduce the factors that interfere with quality of life for individuals, families and the community.

Social research

We conduct research studies to support strategic planning and evidence-based decision making within The City of Red Deer and with our community partners. Our research generates accurate and timely information. We use this information to support local and civic program planning, advocacy and partnerships.

Connect with Government, private sector, and NGOs

We talk to provincial and federal governments, related government agencies and other community leaders. We keep an eye on social trends, interpret policy for Red Deer social agencies, inform government about our community and share information with other community stakeholders. We help agencies to hear about – and take advantage of – new opportunities.
